Spoken Album Intro:
With every passing generation, one of the most powerful forces felt in the Church of our Lord is the influence of faithful Christian mothers and grandmothers.  Most of us have many precious memories of these women either humming or singing the old favorite hymns of the Church as they work or even as a lullaby when they tucked us into bed.  The lady pictured with us on this recording is Sister Hallie Stevens, mother of three gospel preachers, Eldridge Stevens, R.J. Stevens, and Lanier Stevens who sings the Baritone in our quartet.  To her and to each of our mothers this album is affectionatly dedicated as we remember the songs that mother used to sing.

Precious Memories

Words and music: J.B.F. Wright
This song also appeared on Our Family Album by The Sounds of Glory.
Lead: None

Lyrics:

Precious memories, unseen angels
Sent from somewhere to my soul
How they linger, ever near me
And the sacred past unfold

Chorus:
Precious memories, how they linger
How they ever flood my soul
In the stillness of the midnight
Precious sacred scenes unfold

Precious father, loving mother
Fly across the lonely years
And old home's scenes of my childhood
In fond memory appear

Repeat Chorus

Scriptural Reference:

"But Timothy has just now come to us from you and has brought good news about your faith and love. He has told us that you always have pleasant memories of us and that you long to see us, just as we also long to see you."  1 Thessalonians 3:6

To Canaans Land

Lyrics:

To Canaan's land I'm on my way
Where the soul of man never dies
My darkest night will turn to day
Where the soul of man never dies

Chorus:
No sad farewells (Dear friends, there'll be no sad farewells)
No tear dimmed eyes (There'll be no tear dimmed eyes)
Where all is love (Where all is peace and joy and love)
And the soul (of man) never dies

I’m on my way to that fair land
Where the soul of man never dies
Where there will be no parting hand
Where the soul of man never dies

Repeat Chorus

Scriptural Reference:

"Hear, O Israel, and be careful to obey so that it may go well with you and that you may increase greatly in a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the Lord, the God of your fathers, promised you."  Deuteronomy 6:3

Above the Bright Blue

Words and music:
Lead: None

Lyrics:

There's a beautiful place called heaven
It is hidden above the bright blue
Where the good who from earth ties are riven
Life in love an eternity through

Chorus:
Above the bright blue, the beautiful blue
Jesus is waiting for me and for you
Heaven is there, not far from our sight
Beautiful city of light

We know not when He shall call us
Whether soon the glad summons shall be
But we know when we pass o'er the river
The glory of Jesus we'll see

Repeat Chorus

Scriptural Reference:

"Keep yourselves in God's love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life."  Jude 1:21

No Tears in Heaven

Words: Fanny Crosby (1868)
Music: W. Howard Doane
This song also appeared on Sing With Feeling: Volume 1 by The Sounds of Glory.
Lead: None

Lyrics:

No tears in heaven, no sorrow given
All will be glory in that land
They'll be no sadness, all will be gladness
When we shall join that happy band

Chorus:
(And they'll be) No tears (in heaven fair), no tears, no tears up there
Sorrow and pain will all have flown
(And they'll be) No tears (in heaven fair), no tears, no tears up there
No tears in heaven will be known

Some morning yonder, we'll cease to ponder
For things this life has brought to view
All will be clearer, saved ones be dearer
In heaven where all will be made new

Repeat Chorus

Scriptural Reference:

"He will swallow up death forever.  The Sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears from all faces; He will remove the disgrace of his people from all the earth.  The Lord has spoken."  Isaiah 25:8

This song also appeared on Never Grow Old by Revival.

Lyrics:

I have heard of a land on the far away strand
'Tis a beautiful home of the soul
Built by Jesus on high, where we never shall die
'Tis a land where we never grow old

Chorus:
Never grow old, (where we'll) never grow old
In a land where we'll never grow old
Never grow old, (where we'll) never grow old
In a land where we'll never grow old

When our work here is done and the life crown is won
And our troubles and trials are o'er
All our sorrow will end, and our voices will blend
With the loved ones who've gone on before

Repeat Chorus

Mansions Over the Hilltop

Words and music: Ira Stamphill (~1949)
This song also appeared on Sing With Feeling: Volume 1 by The Sounds of Glory.
Lead: None

Lyrics:

I'm satisfied with just a cottage below
A little silver and a little gold
But in that city, where the ransomed will shine
I want a gold one, that silver lined

Chorus:
I've got a mansion just over the hilltop
In that bright land where we'll never grow old
And someday yonder, we will never more wander
But walk the streets that are purest gold

Don't think me poor or deserted or lonely
I'm not discouraged, I'm heaven bound
I'm just a pilgrim in search of a city
I want a mansion, a robe, and a crown

Repeat Chorus

Scriptural Reference:

"The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each gate made of a single pearl. The great street of the city was of pure gold, like transparent glass."  Revelation 21:21

The Son of God discloses

And He walks with me
And He talks with me
And He tells me I am His own
And the joy we share as we tarry there
None other has ever known

He speaks and the sound of His voice
Is so sweet the birds hush their singing
And the melody that He gave to me
Within my heart is ringing

Repeat Chorus

Words and music: W. B. Stevens and J.R. Baxter © 1938 Stamps-Baxter Music

Tempted and tried we're oft' made to wonder
Why it should be thus all the day long
While there are others living about us
Never molested, though in the wrong

Farther along, we'll know all about it
Farther along, we'll understand why
Cheer up, my brother, live in the sunshine

When He comes from His home in the sky
Then we shall meet Him in that bright mansion
We'll understand it all by and by

Does Jesus Care

Words: Frank E. Graeff (1901)
Music: J. Lincoln Hall
Lead: None

Lyrics:

Does Jesus care when my heart is pained
Too deeply for mirth and song
As the burdens press, and the cares distress
And the way grows weary and long?

Chorus:
Oh yes, He cares, I know He cares
His heart is touched with my grief
When the days are weary, the long nights dreary
I know my Savior cares (He cares)

Does Jesus care when I've said "goodbye"
To the dearest on earth to me
And my sad heart aches till it nearly breaks
Is it aught to Him? Does He see?

Repeat Chorus

Scriptural Reference:

"Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you."  1 Peter 5:7

Beautiful Isle of Somewhere!

Somewhere the load is lifted
Close by an open gate
Somewhere the clouds are rifted
Somewhere the angels wait

The Old Rugged Cross

Words and music: George Bennard (1913)
Lead: None

Lyrics:

On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross
The emblem of suffering and shame
And I love that old cross where the dearest and best
For a world of lost sinners was slain

Chorus:
So I'll cherish the old rugged cross (the old rugged cross)
Till my trophies at last I lay down
I will cling to the old rugged cross (the old rugged cross)
And exchange it some day for a crown

To the old rugged cross I will ever be true
Its shame and reproach gladly bear
Then He'll call me some day to my home far away
Where His glory forever I'll share

Repeat Chorus

Scriptural Reference:

"May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world."  Galatians 6:14
